Global / National  A new project aiming to accelerate the development and accessibility of human avian influenza (H5N1) messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine candidates for manufacturers in low- and middle-income countries has been initiated.  85 sick and severely injured patients from Gaza were evacuated to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), for specialized care: the largest medical evacuation outside GAZA since October 23.  The World Health Organization (WHO) released the first-ever clinical treatment guidelines for tobacco cessation in adults, which includes behavioral support, digital cessation interventions, and pharmacological treatments.  FDA approved the following new drugs: Kisunla for treatment of Alzheimer’s and Leqselvi for treatment of alopecia areata.  Illinois Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced the first 2024 human case of the mosquito-borne illness West Nile virus (WNV).  IDPH, DNR and Rock Island Area Health Authorities are investigating an outbreak of cryptosporidiosis, a gastrointestinal disease, in persons helping at a Rock Island County wildlife rehabilitation facility that has affected at least 12 visitors.   Northwestern  A cardiorespiratory fitness scoring system based on the analysis of circulating protein levels created by Northwestern medicine professors and physicians lays the foundation for the creation of a simple blood test that could provide a snapshot of [...]
